The best way to determine value-for-money is to focus on the investment returns your provider is achieving, after fees and taxes are subtracted.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>All fee structures are different<\/h3>\n<p>However you choose to invest, there will be fees for doing so. And each investment firm will apply their own fee structure, which is likely to differ from other firms.<br \/>\nSo before you invest, it\u2019s important to understand all the expenses associated with each type of investment.<\/p>\n<h3>Small differences can make a big impact<\/h3>\n<p>Lower costs give you a greater share of the returns on any given investment, which helps you maximise things like the benefits of compounding returns. Over time, even small differences in costs can have a big impact on performance.<\/p>\n<h3>Fees for Millford PIE Investment Funds<\/h3>\n<p>Milford\u2019s Funds have a capped management fee which is used to pay Fund-related expenses such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fund administration<\/li>\n<li>research<\/li>\n<li>company visits<\/li>\n<li>supervisor costs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Fees for Milford KiwiSaver Funds<\/h3>\n<p>The Milford KiwiSaver Plan also has a monthly member administration and registry fee. In addition most Milford Funds have a performance fee.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cThis is applied only when we exceed the performance objective for any given Fund.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>For example if a Fund\u2019s objective is to return 10% per annum, after fees and before tax, and the Fund returns 12%, a performance fee is taken from the 2% additional return.<\/p>\n<p>The performance fee is intended to align our interests with those of our investors, so when our clients do well, we do well.<\/p>\n<p>Please refer to Milford\u2019s Unit Trust PIE Fund or KiwiSaver Plan Product Disclosure Statements for more information on fees.<\/p>\n<h3>Fees are not the same as returns<\/h3>\n<p>It\u2019s important not to only focus on performance, or only on fees and tax.
